History
The house is currently called Pendragon House, but has gone through a number of name changes since it was built as Claverton Hotel, the last being Bassett’s House which was sold at auction on 5th September 1873, whilst being let to, amongst others, a General Patton, since 1858 – the railway having been built in 1857, thus putting paid to the hotel’s trade, which seems to have been made up largely of canal boat passengers. Before the current owners purchased it, it was run as Bath Cookery School, offering residential cookery classes. At some stage before then and after World War 2, it was used as an outward bound house for wayward boys. At other times it has been used mostly as a family home with a heavy partying period in the ‘60’s.
